Through our efforts in increasing resource efficiencies and decreasing negative environmental impacts, we can create a world in which technological industrial growth and environmental protection can coexist. Inside our production plants, in addition to the initial evaluation on equipment selection in terms of energy efficiency, we include energy-saving targets in our yearly plan and continuously review and improve processes to save energy and protect our environment. For the implementation of green policies within Lungtan plant, Holy Stone raises employees' awareness in training courses and posts notes near switches and on bulletin boards. Each month, energy- saving information is shared to our colleagues in hopes that we can collectively implement green measures in every possible aspect.
For domestic water use, in 2011 the factory management team has installed water saving devices in bathrooms and pantries. Although these may be small changes, these measures can also spread awareness on conserving resources. Additionally, Holy Stone thoroughly reviews the plant's current equipments and decided to recycle water, such as recycling cooling water for machineries and using it as a supplementary source for air-conditioning cooling towers. We are also reusing the water from reverse osmosis (RO) as a supplementary source for the scrubber.
Restriction Management on Hazardous Substances
Whether in raw materials, finished products, packaging material and equipments, Holy Stone complies with international environmental protection regulations and customer requests to maintain a list of hazardous substances under control to ensure our products meet the requirements of the customers and RoHS standards. We actively participate in conferences held by our customers on product quality and environmental issues to facilitate better communication. We follow closely on customers' requirements through frequent communication in different stages from raw materials to shipping to meet customer expectation.
Internal Training for Hazardous Substances Control
Each new employee in the plant is trained to learn the Company's requirements on hazardous substances control. Annual training courses are also held annually with updated provisions and customers' restriction on hazardous substances so that our green system can be fully implemented throughout the Company.
- Industrial Waste Management－
In addition to adhering to ISO14001 environmental management system, we also report environmental information honestly and accurately to the government according to regulations. This system allows us to understand the flow of wastes to effectively manage and avoid secondary pollution. Our methods used in industrial waste management includes incineration for common industrial wastes and recycle other wastes such as sludge, waste solvents, mixed metal scrap, etc. to reduce environmental impact.
- Waste Recycle－
To improve control and management of raw materials, solvents produced will be recycled and used in the manufacturing process for cleaning purposes, reducing the cost of purchases and the amount of disposals. Lungtan factory will continuously implement multiple energy and resource-saving plans.
- Prevention and Control of Water Pollution－
Various departments' implementation of energy conservation and waste reduction measures can lower costs and processing fees. Water consumption in production processes can be reduced by 67M3 per day, and approximately NT$1,506,680 can be saved each year. In terms of water quality surveillance, we conduct simple inspections on a daily basis, and we also conduct water quality analysis quarterly by organizations approved by the Environmental Protection Administration.
- Prevention and Control of Air Pollution－
1. Greenhouse Gases
Carbon dioxide emissions from purchased electricity are Lungtan plant's major source of greenhouse gas emissions. To decrease carbon dioxide emissions from offices, Lungtan plant has gradually started plans to conserve energy in 2011. These include: standardizing lighting lux, replacing traditional emergency lights with LED power-saving lamps, posting slogans at areas with highest traffic, conducting energy-saving inspections, etc. We will continue these activities to save energy and encourage all employees to participate.
2. Control of Air Emissions
To reduce the environmental impact of volatile organic compounds, Lungtan plant obtained a permit from Taoyuan County Environmental Protection Bureau in October 2011 and has acted according to the provisions. Our 2010 investment in regenerative catalytic oxidizer (RCO), an exhaust gas treatment equipment, has started operations by the end of 2011. The equipment's processing efficiency is above 90%, reducing the emissions of volatile organic compounds. The new equipment also lowered the replacement rate for active carbon, extending replacement days from 14 to 90-120 and decreasing maintenance costs.

3. Prevention and Control of Noise Pollution
Lungtan plant is located in Wushulin Industrial Park. Although noise requirements meet environmental regulations, we have installed silencers additionally to prevent noise pollution and for a better living quality in our neighborhood.
